The owners of this charming Victorian property came to us with a unique and ambitious design in hand, complete with distinct architectural features that set this loft apart. Our role? To bring their creative vision to life with precision, care, and structural excellence.
A Seamless Blend of Classic and Contemporary
Working on period properties requires a delicate balance of preservation and innovation. In this case, we achieved both in abundance. The new staircase to the loft has been traditionally styled to match the home’s original features perfectly. Yet it’s the addition of a large rooflight that transforms the space, flooding both the stairwell and previously light-starved first-floor landing with beautiful natural light.
The Showstopper: A Light-Filled Loft Office
As you ascend into the loft, the design truly comes to life. The L-shaped outrigger boasts a dramatic feature window that mirrors the existing roofline, a stunning architectural detail that captures both light and attention. Paired with an opening flat rooflight above, the result is an inspirational home office bathed in daylight, making it a truly exceptional place to work.
Smart Use of Every Inch
Clever spatial planning extends into the eaves of the outrigger, where we created discreet storage access. This room can also be effortlessly adapted into an additional bedroom, large enough to accommodate a full double bed.
A Guest Suite with Designer Flair
The main dormer features a spacious double bedroom currently serving as a guest suite. Accompanied by a beautifully appointed shower room, the suite is both elegant and efficient. We maximised usable space with a sliding pocket door—an ideal solution for both the bathroom and bedroom.
To enhance natural light, a sliding door with a bespoke glass balustrade, two Velux windows on the front elevation, and an additional flat rooflight all work in harmony to ensure the space feels open, airy, and welcoming.
Finishing Touches
Externally, the dormer has been clad in sleek zinc, complete with custom-fabricated guttering and downpipes. The finish is striking and modern, adding the perfect final flourish to this expertly crafted conversion.
